Startitis Sock Club

Are you ready for this then? Look here at the sock...

Now you may think and wonder what all the fuss is about, but just look will you? I only cast this on 4 days ago. Now I'm a slow knitter, but have already turned the heel. I am so impressed with myself. So impressed that I'm already deciding which pattern to do next and which yarn to use. I am NOT going to knit this sock's partner just yet. Oh no, that would defeat the whole object of the Startitis Sock Club.

I am undecided as to pattern - this one, this one, this one or even this one. Personally, I'm moving slightly towards Monkey - loving Ziggy but would have to buy Silk Garden Sock weight. Nutkin has been on my Ravelry queue for ages and as to Pomatomus, well, I can but dream eh?!

I also have lots of patterns in the books and Ravelry is coming up with a gazillion patterns, most of which I need to make. This is fun - anyone else having a good time deciding on patterns?

I have also been busy making a cake. A friend I used to work with asked for a retirement cake for Howard - 'he's Scottish, plays the saxophone and is retiring from work. Surprise us with something.' Gee thanks Carol!

So here's Howard on top - round each side is a little message and model based on the writing on top 'Now you'll have plenty of time to...' ...play the saxophone, toss the caber, travel and try new sports and my own personal favourite...

See you another day - going to knit socks now!

What a fantastic cake!!! And the sock knitting is pretty amazing too! But will you wear odd ones? Or will they just sit in the Stash Basket waiting for the far distant day when you complete their partner? Lockets don't wear matching socks - did you know that? Well, Dorothy and Daisy Locket do try to wear matching socks for school but it is not the norm and it would actually be extremely rare to find Master Fred or Mr and Mrs Locket in a matching pair no matter what the occasion (unless a new pack of socks has recently been purchased of course)

All hail Odd Sockitis!

Excellent progress. I would do Monkey next they are an enjoyable knit as for Pomatomus........I'll let you decide as you have buckets more patience than me!

That cake is 'wow'. As for the sock patterns - I looked at them and they made my hair hurt. x

What a cake! If you were any closer, I'd hire you to make one for me!
Socks??? Too many patterns, too little time! (And that's why I knit two-at-a-time, otherwise there would be no matches at all;-D)

amazing cake! I really want to learn to decorate cakes "properly" rather than my normal buttercream icing/ganache option - would you recommend taking a class or learning it from a book?

Wow, that cake is just great and the sock is too. Don't anybody do what I have just done.... decided to put all my UFOs (unfinished objects) in one bag..... very depressing seeing them altogether. I daren't tell you how many there are! Finished the crochet slipper but can't seem to cast on the other one! You are a bad influence. There was a time when odd socks were very fashionable. My (then young) son used to wear one shocking pink and one fluorescent(I did look up that spelling!)green. I have photographic evidence, though not digital. My very youngest son could not get those colours in small socks so he just used to wear one blue and one red. My friend thought I'd dressed him in the dark!!

Hey you! Much kudos on being featured on the Simply Knitting website - I've just spotted you there! A fabulous write-up too, including knits and cakes - lummey, your blog has everything!

I think I should join your sock club as I have a pair (of odd socks), although I've recently bought a book about knitting two at a time on circulars - so all that lone sock knitting should be a thing of the past. .... should be ....

:)

Can I still play if I do mine in pairs? Unlike Locket who can't knit two at a time, I can't just do one!!
Your socks are looking fab - great pattern. I'm still very much on plain socks!!

Fantastic cake - a real work of art :-)
