Christmas Cakes

Last year I made 9 Christmas Cakes. It was something I said would never happen again! (Not least because they were all presents). So this year, I've just done 3 - one for me, one for mum and dad and one for a friend who always orders one. Penguins having a snowball fight. Hope she'll like it.

Penguins made of icing are very easy and quite cute. Too cute to eat methinks!

They're a bit naughty though and have stockpiled the snowballs ready to throw at anyone who passes!

And this is our cake. We don't really go a bundle on marzipan and icing, preferring to eat cheese with ours. So I just do glace fruits and nuts on top. A million times easier and quicker. Have tried to persuade above friend to have one of these sorts, but she prefers to make me slave in the kitchen until the early hours. As WC said yesterday, I obviously have far too much time on my hands. (I'm still smarting over that one. Cow.)

Your cakes are beautiful and I'm sure they taste as good as they look, I was going to post a pic of mine later but may have to hide it now!!

I love your little penguins! Our Christmas cake always has the same set of nativity fiugures on the top - but this year we have only a tiny cak so there might be room for Mary, Joseph & Jesus on top but the wise men and shepherds are going to have to cling onto the sides!

I love your little penguins. I made something similar years ago with snowmen playing snowballs! This year there is no cake as the oven hasn't been working! Think it might be a bit late to start now!

Ooh, I'm with your friend on this one .... the more marzipan and icing the better - especially cute penguin-shaped icing - yum!

Oh so cute! But I like eating the fruity nutty ones best too.

Do you want to know a secret? I have never ever made a Christmas cake. Shameful isn't it.

Fabulous cakes Michaela! I have to admit I'd rather like the penguin type but mum (because I never make christmas cakes) always does the fruit and nut version!

Have a wonderful Christmas (enjoying the holiday away from stoopid WC type people!!!)

Oh I love the penguin cake - so cute - I'd definitely want to keep them rather than eat them! I do like the look of yours though - all those yummy nuts and fruits make a beautiful topping. I hope you have a great christmas x

Your little penguins are fab!!

This is my first Christmas without a cake. The kids have voted for a homemade yule log....great!

Your cakes remind me so much of the year my Mum made 35 Christmas cakes! Poor woman was on her knees by Christmas day.

Your cake with fruits and nuts on top is beautiful. I wish to quote Lucy Locket-Pocket on "stoopid WC type people". I wish you a very Happy Christmas Season with some time for yourself (this looks like fantasy to me).
