Can of worms...

Well, I seem to have opened a can of worms with this blanket business. I've had lots of comments about why I've decided to knit individual squares and sew them together rather than picking up stitches. Apart from the fact that I never thought of picking up stitches, I quite like sewing together. I don't find this any hardship, I like doing it.

It looks neat enough to me. What do you think? I would be very interested to see how the 'picked up' squares look. I'm beginning to feel that I'm being picked on a bit here because of the way I'm joining my blanket. Just because one way is suggested doesn't mean that it's the right way or the only way.

But perhaps I'm just being over-sensitive.

Anyway, onto the more important things in life. Saturday pudding. Presenting Queen of Puddings. Have you ever made this? If not, I'll let you into a little secret. It's easy, cheap and very yummy!
Put jam in the bottom of a dish, top with a mixture of milk, egg yolk and bread crumbs, bake, top again with meringue, bake again and eat.

So much less stressful than knitting blankets.

Delurking to say 'It's YOUR blanket ... I think you should be able to put it together how the hell you want to put it together'.

I love the squares you've made so far - they are really fabulous. I couldn't do it.

Your sewn up joins look just as neat as my knitted joins - and a LOT neater than my sewn up joins would look. That's why I am knitting on, sewing up is my least favourite bit. I am hoping to go to a finishing class before I get that far!
I'll put my knitted on squares on my blog shortly.

I also agree with Kitty - you're making the blanket, so its your choice about what to do!

Also, I'd never realised Queen of Puddings was that simple - I thought it was an evil combination of hours of preparation and hours of cooking! Definatley going to give it a try now :)

Nobody should be able to tell you how to do your own blanket! Surely if you pick up and knit it detracts from enjoying the whole process of watching the individual square grow - finding out it's particular personality before it transforms into something completely different when sewn together to form a whole? Or am I being a bit to fey and fanciful for a Sunday lunchtime?

Great pud by the way!

I'm voting with the girls here - don't listen to the pick-up chicks!

ps: these squares are so, so pretty! I can't wait to see how this blanket comes together :)

pps: TLG's birthday party today - having it at the bowling alley, wish me luck - or maybe just survival :)

I don't have an opinion about blankets but I am telling you, Michaela, You Are The Pudding Queen. No arguments there please.

I thought it was odd too when I saw your individual squares but that's because I hate sewing up and I can't understand how anybody likes doing it! Maybe people were just trying to help you not criticise you! But I agree that you can do what you want with your blanket so don't worry about the comments, your squares look beautiful, much better than mine!

You know, I don't think it would have occurred to me to do anything other than sew the squares together. It's all about how you work best at the end of the day.

Great pud btw :) Mmmmmmm. Makes me hungry, now I have to go to the vending machine for chocolate! You're such a bad influence Michaela ;)

It's your blanket
and you'll sew if you want to
sew if you want to
sew if you want to

OK, enough silly songs, but honest, you are the neatest finisher out there, and I think your sewn squares look neater than picked up stitches would, and if you enjoy it more than picking up stitches, why not do it? Life's too short to do things in non fun ways. I suppose another alternative would be to not bind off and just join the next square on top side and make one long scarf like thing (and then sew them together!), but here's the deal, it's your blanket - who made these other folks the blanket police? :)

Delicious looking pudding, thanks for sharing the recipe!

I think sewing the squares together would have been my first thought too. I doubt I would even have thought about picking up stitches!

Pudding looks amazing!

I did a Christmas Queen of puds with maramalade and clemetine zest in it. I loved it, the rest of the family didn't. So, that'll be a regular in our house then, hee hee!

And for what it's worth, I think whatever you choose to do with the blanket is entirely your own affair.

Personally, most of the time I would eat my own foot rather than pick up stitches,it always seems messy. Mind you I get very critical of my stitching too. Everyone has to work the way that suits them. The only other way I can imagine knitting for a blanket would be to make long strips like a scarf, not bothering to cast off one square, just carry straight on knitting the next, but it isn't so portable that way,is it?

Enjoy your blanket your way.

I always make such a tatty mess of picking up stitches that I much prefer stitching together. If I were you I'd do it the way that you are most happy with!

Looking very gorgeous by the way :-)
