Nasty and Nice

Nasty first. This cake has to be the most horrid one I've ever done. It was ordered by Damon's wife. She likes purple so has apparently themed the party in shades of purple. So naturally she wanted a purple cake, and as Damon is a policeman, she wanted handcuffs and a helmet on it aswell. Hmm. No accounting for taste is there? I decided to pipe the ' You have the right to remain silent' thingy on it. And that, as it turns out, is the only bit of it I like.

And now onto the Nice one.

At a loss as to what to make for pudding tonight, I opted for a chocolate chip and orange cake, liberally covered in chocolate icing and maltesers. Much more in my line!

But I have decided that there is, quite simply, too much me at the moment, so I am insisting that I go on a diet. (Only had a tiny bit of cake - one malteser worth - talk about will power!) I actually started 'being good' on Tuesday, but with all the excitement of the Blanket, this is the first chance I've had to tell you about it. I got weighed - not good news so don't even ask - and intend getting weighed again after a fortnight.

So here we have a mini competition. How much do you think I can lose in 2 weeks? In pounds please - just leave a comment. The person nearest will get a little present, or in the event of a tie, I'll pull the names out of a hat. Present might well be something to eat or something wooly or maybe a little felted cake. You can choose! Just to help you along, I don't go to the gym, I knit. I don't exercise, I knit. I abstain from all forms of anything remotely energetic, I knit!

And if anyone dares to say that I'll just stay the same weight, I'll cry and refuse to send them a present, even if they're right!

You have until 11th Feb.

Hmmm...hard to choose...realism or cheer-leader enthusiasm? I'll go with real - 5.5 lbs.

ps: You are going to think that I am a real copy cat; BUT once again, I'm standing with you in international solidarity - though, not until Wednesday (Ash Wednesday to be exact). Our little tribe is giving up sweets for Lent.

(This should be interesting...)

I am going to be mid line conservative... they say the "healthy" amount to loose is one to two pounds a week. Since you were so determined that you shall not exercise.. I am going to say you will loose 3 pounds in 2 weeks. Good luck with your plans!

As you have children you must do some running around! I would guess 7 lbs. Good Luck.

ah! Me too! Well, I am thinking about it hehehe if I diet I put weight on because I can be 'good' for a week or two but the strain makes me rebound into naughtiness very soon. So for your 2 weeks I say 4 lbs :o)

Hmmm, tricky one! I also got weighed on Tuesday (not a pretty number on the scales!!!) - it's difficult to guess how much you will lose because the first week can often be quite dramatic followed by more normal weight loss thereafter. Well then, I'm going to go for 5lbs - aspirational! Lucy x

P.S. Good luck!!!!

Oh, you are good to resist that yummy looking cake, I guess you will lose 6lb.

Ok, I'll say 4 and a half pounds...which, because I am a neonatal nurse, I will remind everyone is the size of a very decently covered baby....I am on a diet too, so I'll think of you when I DON'T eat my gifts of chocolate from grateful parents, and DON'T put my fist in the biscuit tin, and DON'T call in to the newagents for polos on the way home....and where would you like me to send the brown jumper that's felting so you can make a DECORATIVE chocolate cake?....No calories there!!! Bugger, I was, of course thinking in kilos...although lots of our babies DO do very well indeed at 4 and a half POUNDS....WHY oh WHY did we ever try to change to BLOODY metric measurements??? SORRY!!! Fran (DOH!!!)

Hi there:

I believe you could shed 7 pounds if you really stick to your resolution and if you privilege fresh vegetables, lean meat and fresh fruits because you do exercise by taking care of your family. The real struggle is to keep the pounds off after two weeks. But you do know that already. I will join you in the diet effort. In fact, I already started this morning, bought three yummy pastries (two French brioches, an Apple turnover) and gave them away immediately, relieved by doing so. Let's act healthy.

7 pounds?!!! Blimey, I like your optimism! I'm eating plenty of fresh fruit and I've always prefered raw veg to the cooked sort. Now if only I could stop the chocolate cravings!

3.75 pounds (if I've done the kg to lbs conversion right, that is...)

I think you can loose 8 - the reason being that i have put my husband on a healthy eating plan, no sugar, bread, pasta or rice. He eats stir-fries with loads of chicken and fresh vegetables, snacks on fruit and raw veg and has to abstain from his favourite food (chocolate) for 6 days a week for 6 weeks. on sundays i make a roast dinner with roast potatoes and all the trimmings and he can let rip! he lost 6lbs the first week (mainly water) and 2lbs the second week. he does not exercise, and he seems to be coping fine. i keep having to tell him that it's a lifestyle change, not a diet and it seems to be helping him so far. i think you look fabulous the way you are but i know that this is a personal issue and entirely up to the individual. good luck!

argh - dont you know I come here for the cake and yarn pics, not to be reminded of how I need to diet. Mind you, spending the last 4 days in a swimming costume have reminded me nicely of how much weight I have to lose so I'mwith you on the 2 week how much can I lose thing. Lets say 6 pounds each shall we? gulp.. kerrie x

I'm with Kerrie on this one .... LESS DIETING AND MORE GRATUITOUS CAKE SHOTS, PLEASE!!

I for one love the purple cake and would happily eat it. And as for the chocolate one ..... well, you'd gain pounds just looking at it's gorgeousness!

But *sigh* if you must do the dreaded D word, then I hope you lose 4 pounds and I win some cake
(failing that, I'd also like to choose 2/3/5/6/7 and 8 pounds, please)

What? No wagers from Warren?

ps: how is that knitting-so-Warren's-money-goes-to-charity going?

It's impolite for a gentleman to comment on a lady's weight, even when comments are invited.

How's that for diplomacy? Or would "cop-out" be a more accurate description?

And how is the yarn-buying abstinence going?

I'd say 2 kilos, but I'll make it 4.7 pounds since you managed to eat no more than such a small piece of such a yummy looking cake...

I wouldn't manage more than the 2 kilos. :)

Like working mom knits though, I'll be giving up sweets for Lent (Sundays excepted :)), so I'll be thinking of you!

Hmmm... Well, with three kids under three (yes, you heard right!) I tend to drop pounds rather quickly, LOL! I've found that little kids are my best weight loss secret! I'm going to guess that in two weeks you will have lost 6.5 pounds. Weight tends to come off faster for me at the start. (It's those last 10 pounds that I don't think I'll ever lose!) Good luck!

I'll say 6 pounds.
